    Active Disturbance Rejection Control for MEMS Gyroscopes

    A new control method is presented to drive the drive axis of a Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) gyroscope to resonance and to regulate the output amplitude of the axis to a fixed level. It is based on a unique active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) strategy, which actively estimates and compensates for internal dynamic changes of the drive axis and external disturbances in real time. The stability analysis shows that both the estimation error and the tracking error of the drive axis output are bounded and that the upper bounds of the errors monotonously decrease with the increase of the controller bandwidth. The control system is simulated and tested using a field-programmable-gate-array-based digital implementation on a piezoelectric vibrational gyroscope. Both simulation and experimental results demonstrate that the proposed controller not only drives the drive axis to vibrate along the desired trajectory but also compensates for manufacture imperfections in a robust fashion that makes the performance of the gyroscope insensitive to parameter variations and noises. Such robustness, the fact that the control design does not require an accurate plant model, and the ease of implementation make the proposed solution practical and economic for industrial applications

    Simulated microgravity with floating environment promotes migration of non-small cell lung cancers

    A migration of cancer is one of the most important factors affecting cancer therapy. Particularly, a cancer migration study in a microgravity environment has gained attention as a tool for developing cancer therapy. In this study, we evaluated the proliferation and migration of two types (adenocarcinoma A549, squamous cell carcinoma H1703) of non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLC) in a floating environment with microgravity. When we measured proliferation of two NSCLCs in the microgravity (MG) and ground-gravity (CONT), although initial cell adhesion in MG was low, a normalized proliferation rate of A549 in MG was higher than that in CONT. Wound healing results of A549 and H1703 showed rapid recovery in MG; particularly, the migration rate of A549 was faster than that of H1703 both the normal and low proliferating conditions. Gene expression results showed that the microgravity accelerated the migration of NSCLC. Both A549 and H1703 in MG highly expressed the migration-related genes MMP-2, MMP-9, TIMP-1, and TIMP-2 compared to CONT at 24 h. Furthermore, analysis of MMP-2 protein synthesis revealed weaker metastatic performance of H1703 than that of A549. Therefore, the simulated microgravity based cancer culture environment will be a potential for migration and metastasis studies of lung cancers

    Management of right main bronchial rupture with a double lumen endotracheal tube in a patient with blunt chest trauma

    Tracheobronchial disruption is one of the most severe injuries caused by blunt chest trauma. It may cause airway obstruction and resulting life-threatening respiratory deficiency. However, the clinical presentations are variable and frequently difficult to diagnose. We report a case of a previously healthy 16-year-old man with complete right main bronchial transection sustained after a vehicular accident, who had progressive dyspnea, subcutaneous emphysema in the neck and anterior chest wall, and bilateral tension pneumothorax. Prompt chest tube drainage for suspected bilateral tension pneumothorax and a tracheal intubation were performed. Shortly after the positive pressure ventilation, severe subcutaneous emphysema developed and he was at risk for developing shock. Additional chest tubes were inserted. An emergency bronchoscopy showed rupture of the right main bronchus. After changing to a double lumen endotracheal tube, the patient’s condition improved. A surgical closure was performed and postoperative bronchoscopy showed good repair. The patient was discharged without complications

    Association between Sleep Duration and Injury from Falling among Older Adults:A Cross-Sectional Analysis of Korean Community Health Survey Data

    Purpose: While sleeping problems increase with advancing age, there are inherent differences in sleep between males and females. Previous studies have shown inconsistent results of the relationship between sleep duration and risk of injury from falling. While controlling various sociodemographic and health-related factors, national representative data were used in order to analyze the association between sleep duration and injury from falling among older adults. Materials and Methods: The data were obtained from the Korean Community Health Survey of 2011. A total of 55654 individuals aged 65 years and older participated in the study. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was conducted to identify the factors associated with injury from falling. Results: After adjusting for covariates, such as age, sex, marital status, whether or not an individual is a recipient of benefits from the National Basic Livelihood Act, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, stress level, and self-rated health status, those who slept five hours or less per day [odds ratio (OR)=1.26; 95% confidence interval (CI)=1.18–1.34; p<0.001] or eight hours or more per day (OR=1.11; 95% CI=1.04–1.17; p=0.001) presented significantly higher ORs for injury from falling. A similar result was found when we conducted stratification by sex. Conclusion: The current study supports that there is a relationship between short sleep duration and injury from falling and also identified a marginal risk of long sleep in older adults. Therefore, sleep management in older adults with inadequate sleep duration may be necessary

    Stochastic Particle Flow for Nonlinear High-Dimensional Filtering Problems

    A series of novel filters for probabilistic inference that propose an alternative way of performing Bayesian updates, called particle flow filters, have been attracting recent interest. These filters provide approximate solutions to nonlinear filtering problems. They do so by defining a continuum of densities between the prior probability density and the posterior, i.e. the filtering density. Building on these methods' successes, we propose a novel filter. The new filter aims to address the shortcomings of sequential Monte Carlo methods when applied to important nonlinear high-dimensional filtering problems. The novel filter uses equally weighted samples, each of which is associated with a local solution of the Fokker-Planck equation. This hybrid of Monte Carlo and local parametric approximation gives rise to a global approximation of the filtering density of interest. We show that, when compared with state-of-the-art methods, the Gaussian-mixture implementation of the new filtering technique, which we call Stochastic Particle Flow, has utility in the context of benchmark nonlinear high-dimensional filtering problems. In addition, we extend the original particle flow filters for tackling multi-target multi-sensor tracking problems to enable a comparison with the new filter

    Safety and Efficacy of Dacomitinib in Korean Patients with KRAS Wild-Type Advanced Non–Small-Cell Lung Cancer Refractory to Chemotherapy and Erlotinib or Gefitinib: A Phase I/II Trial

    IntroductionDacomitinib (PF-00299804), an irreversible pan-human epidermal growth factor receptor ([HER]-1/EGFR, HER-2, and HER-4) tyrosine kinase inhibitor, demonstrated antitumor activity in Western patients with non–small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) at a dose of 45 mg once daily. We report data from a phase I/II, multicenter, open-label study of Korean patients with refractory KRAS wild-type adenocarcinoma NSCLC (defined as patients with evidence of disease progression during or within 6 months of treatment with chemotherapy and gefitinib or erlotinib).MethodsThe phase I dose-finding portion identified the recommended phase II dose (RP2D) in Korean patients, evaluated safety, and characterized the pharmacokinetics of dacomitinib. In the phase II portion, patients received dacomitinib at the RP2D. The primary end point was progression-free survival at 4 months (PFS4m).ResultsTwelve patients enrolled in phase I, and 43 patients enrolled in phase II at the RP2D of 45 mg once daily. In phase II, PFS4m was 47.2% (95% confidence interval [CI], 31.6–61.3; one-sided p-value = 0.0007). Median PFS was 15.4 weeks (95% CI, 9.7–17.6); median overall survival was 46.3 weeks (95% CI, 32.7–not reached); and the objective response rate was 17.1% (95% CI, 7.2–32.1). Common treatment-related adverse events were dermatitis acneiform, diarrhea, and paronychia; there were no treatment-related grade 4 or 5 adverse events. Pharmacokinetic parameters of dacomitinib in Korean patients were similar to those reported in Western patients. By patient report, NSCLC symptoms “cough” and “pain” showed improvement within 3 weeks of initiating treatment.ConclusionsDacomitinib was well tolerated and had antitumor activity in Korean patients with NSCLC who had previously progressed on chemotherapy and an epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor

    Congenital Hemidiaphragmatic Agenesis Presenting as Reversible Mesenteroaxial Gastric Volvulus and Diaphragmatic Hernia: A Case Report

    A 70-yr-old woman complained of left sided chest pain and non-bilious vomiting for four days after taking a gastric bloating agent for an upper gastrointestinal study. The chest radiography revealed gastric air-fluid levels and bowel loops in the left thoracic cavity. An emergency thoracotomy was performed. The abdominal organs (stomach, spleen, splenic flexure of the colon) were in the left thorax and the entire left hemidiaphragm was absent. There were no diaphragmatic remnants visible for reconstruction of the left diaphragm. We provided warm saline irrigation and performed a left lower lobe adhesiotomy. Thirteen days after surgery, the chest radiography showed improvement in the herniation but mild haziness remained at the left lower lung field. Here we present the oldest case of congenital diaphragmatic agenesis presenting with transient gastric volvulus and diaphragmatic hernia

    Radiofrequency ablation via an implanted self-expandable metallic stent to treat in-stent restenosis in a rat gastric outlet obstruction model

    Background: In-stent restenosis caused by tissue hyperplasia and tumor growth through the wire meshes of an implanted self-expandable metallic stent (SEMS) remains an unresolved obstacle. This study aimed to investigate the safety and efficacy of SEMS-mediated radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for treating stent-induced tissue hyperplasia in a rat gastric outlet obstruction model.Methods: The ablation zone was investigated using extracted porcine liver according to the ablation time. The optimal RFA parameters were evaluated in the dissected rat gastric outlet. We allocated 40 male rats to four groups of 10 rats as follows: group A, SEMS placement only; group B, SEMS-mediated RFA at 4 weeks; group C, SEMS-mediated RFA at 4 weeks and housed until 8 weeks; and group D, SEMS-mediated RFA at 4 and 8 weeks. Endoscopy and fluoroscopy for in vivo imaging and histological and immunohistochemical analysis were performed to compare experimental groups.Results: Stent placement and SEMS-mediated RFA with an optimized RFA parameter were technically successful in all groups. Granulation tissue formation-related variables were significantly higher in group A than in groups B–D (all p &lt; 0.05). Endoscopic and histological findings confirmed that the degrees of stent-induced tissue hyperplasia in group D were significantly lower than in groups B and C (all p &lt; 0.05). Hsp70 and TUNEL expressions were significantly higher in groups B–D than in group A (all p &lt; 0.001).Conclusion: The implanted SEMS-mediated RFA successfully managed stent-induced tissue hyperplasia, and repeated or periodic RFA seems to be more effective in treating in-stent restenosis in a rat gastric outlet obstruction model

    Import 26/02/2015Tato diplomová práce je zaměřena na vyprojektování multifunkčního domu, ve kterém bude zajištěno strojní větrání a zajištěno vytápění pomocí alternativního zdroje tepla. Multifunkční dům podsklepený a má čtyři nadzemní podlaží s pochozí terasou. Objekt je navržen ze sortimentu firmy Porotherm. Funkčně je navržen tak, že v prvním podzemním podlaží se nachází technické zázemí a kóje bytů, první nadzemní podlaží tvoří dvě nezávislé prodejní plochy. Ve druhém patře jsou umístěny kancelářské prostory. Druhou horní polovinu objektu , třetí a čtvrté nadzemní podlaží, tvoří bytové jednotky. Základním kamenem pro nutnou výměnu vzduchu v objektu jsou tři vzduchotechnické systémy, které se starají o dodávku a výměnu vzduchu ve třech celcích. První celkem je jednotka pro prodejní plochy v prvním nadzemním podlaží a kancelářské prostory ve druhém nadzemním podlaží. Druhá jednotka má na starosti byty ve třetím a čtvrtém podlaží a poslední, třetí, jednotka zajišťuje přívod čerstvého vzduchu do společných prostor a odvod odpadního vzduchu do exteriéru. Všechny jednotky jsou vybaveny rekuperátorem. V objektu je také řešeno vytápění pomocí alternativních zdrojů. Jako alternativní zdroje energie jsou použity tepelné čerpadlo vzduch – voda a solární kolektory. Tepelné čerpadlo se stará o pokrytí tepelných ztrát prostupem, větráním a přípravou teplé vody. Solární kolektory umístěné na terase pomáhají s ohřevem teplé vody v objektu.This Master thesis is focused on the projection Multifunctional building, which will ensure mechanical ventilation and heating ensured by using alternative heat sources. Multifunctional building basement and has four floors with walkable terrace. The building is designed from company Porotherm. Functionally, it is designed so that on the first floor there is a technical background and cubicle apartments, first floor consists of two independent sales area. On the second floor there are office spaces. The second half of the upper house, the third and fourth floors, consists of residential units. The cornerstone for the necessary air exchange in the building are three air handling systems that are responsible for the delivery and exchange of air in three units. The first is the total unit sales area on the first floor and office space on the second floor. The second unit is in charge of flats in the third and fourth floors and the last third unit provides fresh air to the common area and the exhaust to the exterior. All units are equipped with a recuperator. There is also heating solutions using alternative sources. As alternative energy sources are used heat pump air - water and solar collectors. The heat pump takes care of the cover heat losses through transmission, ventilation and hot water.     The genome of the freshwater monogonont rotifer Brachionus calyciflorus

    Monogononta is the most speciose class of rotifers, with more than 2,000 species. The monogonont genus Brachionus is widely distributed at a global scale, and a few of its species are commonly used as ecological and evolutionary models to address questions related to aquatic ecology, cryptic speciation, evolutionary ecology, the evolution of sex and ecotoxicology. With the importance of Brachionus species in many areas of research, it is remarkable that the genome has not been characterized. This study aims to address this lacuna by presenting, for the first time, the whole‐genome assembly of the freshwater species Brachionus calyciflorus. The total length of the assembled genome was 129.6 Mb, with 1,041 scaffolds. The N50 value was 786.6 kb, and the GC content was 24%. A total of 16,114 genes were annotated with repeat sequences, accounting for 21% of the assembled genome. This assembled genome may form a basis for future studies addressing key questions on the evolution of monogonont rotifers. It will also provide the necessary molecular resources to mechanistically investigate ecophysiological and ecotoxicological responses. </p
